Latest Update on Bradley (as at 08 June 2016)
I visited Bradley today after his operation on his nose yesterday. Prof. Andrew Heggie visited him this morning and has giver the all clear for his discharge tomorrow 6th June home to the Cox Family. I will take him to have the stitches removed on Wednesday morning and will check on his suitability for travel later in June. Bradley has been in contact with his family in Port Moresby and photos have been exchanged keeping everyone in the loop.
Thanks to Dianne & Gavin McIntyre for their support of Bradley and the Cox Family.
Norm Casey (for the D9810 ROMAC committee)
Successful review today following the operation last Saturday. Things are settling down well and the external stitches were removed Bradley will return next Wednesday to have the supports for the Septum reconstruction removed and to check the healing of his rib.
The Rotary Wheel is a wonderful mnemonic device, as you literally see the symbol everywhere, once you are attuned to it.
1. The Four sections between the outside teeth and inside spokes = The Rotary 4-Way Test
2. The Six triangular sections between the spokes = The Six Areas of Focus: Water & Sanitation, Maternal & Child Health, Basic Education & Literacy, Economic & Community Development, Disease Prevention & Treatment, and Peace & Conflict Resolution.
3. The 24 teeth on the outside of the wheel = the words to the 4-Way Test:
Is it the Truth? Is it Fair to all concerned? Will it build Goodwill and Better Friendship? Will it be Beneficial to all concerned?
4. The center keyway = Service Above Self
In engineering circles, it is known that a gear with a keyway is a "working gear," that drives the machine and all the other gears.
So, whenever you see this Rotary wheel, let it be a reminder of these important aspects of Rotary in our daily lives!
The visit has been arranged for 27 July commencing at 6pm and lasting about 60-70 minutes after which we will adjourn to a restaurant for dinner.
The Institute has advised as follows:-
“Please let me know if there is a particular area of research that you would like to hear about during the tour. The areas of research at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute include cancer, including breast, lung, ovarian, prostate, colon and blood cancers; immune disorders such as diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus and celiac disease; and infectious diseases such as malaria, hepatitis B and HIV. As part of the tour you can meet with a scientist that researches in your area of interest, hear about their research and tour through their laboratory. The tours usually run for approximately one hour, and also include an overview of the history and other research areas at the institute.”
The institute is located at 1G Royal Parade, Parkville (behind the Royal Melbourne Private Hospital). There is limited car parking on their forecourt, and more parking available in the Royal Melbourne Hospital car park beside the institute.

UNICEF NEEDS YOUR FOREIGN COINS
More and more of us are heading overseas and we always seem to return with useless foreign coins that end up in the bottom of a drawer somewhere.
Ron Brooks, RC of Forest Hill, coordinates this successful D9810 project. He says “have a coffee jar at your registration desk each week to collect them”. DG David said “This is a great initiative, involving little effort that could become a great source of publicity. Ron will coordinate at District level but needs help from all clubs” In the last 18 months 120kgs of coins and notes sent to UNICEF were valued by them at $4,700.64
Eammon Bryant, UNICEF Partnerships Manager emailed “We see Rotary and UNICEF as a perfect match. Our history working with, and converting foreign coin to help children in need matched with your unparalleled reach across Australian communities, we think, makes it a dream fit”. UNICEF works in over 190 countries to support children’s health needs, clean water and sanitation, quality basic education, and protection from violence, exploitation, and HIV.
So, far more than 15 clubs in the district have joined enthusiastically into this initiative. We are 12.1kgs into the next collection.
=
• $2 will provide a severely malnourished child enough therapeutic super food for one day
• $6 will provide 20 doses of potentially life-saving measles vaccine
UNICEF will also take old European coins that are no longer in circulation.
Please leave your foreign coins and notes in the jar on the desk
