Greetings everyone and Happy Moomba!
Whitehorse Farmers Market, 8 March 2020
We had fine weather for the Farmers Market. 51 stalls in all. Collections etc to be advised once Jenny lets us know. Thanks to Mike F, Ian A and Bob A for collecting at the gates and Judith for stall holder collections. Jenny is now treasurer and is doing a great job.

International Women’s Day Breakfast – Wednesday 4 March 2020
Judith, Sue W, Marg H and I joined over 300 people at this combined Whitehorse cluster event on 4 March at the Box Hill Town Hall. For the past 7-8 months I have been on the organising committee, which was an experience, given the size of the event. I am pleased to report it went very well. $10,000 was donated to the charity “Love Your Sister”.
100 Years of Women In Council event at the Box Hill Town Hall – 4 March 2020
As part of celebrating International Women’s Day, I attended a City of Whitehorse function to celebrate 100 years of Women in Council. Keynote speaker was Helen Buckingham. After teaching for many years, Helen was elected as a Whitehorse City Councillor in 1997, and was Mayor for 2 years in 1998 and 1999. She entered Federal politics in 2000 and contested the seat of Deakin but was unsuccessful. She then entered State politics and contested the Legislative council seat of Koonung Province which she won.
Whitehorse Business Group AGM – Tuesday 3 March 2020
I attended the Whitehorse Business Group AGM. They reported finances were a good position and increased from 2019. Membership numbers have also been maintained and so the group is generally in a strong position.
There is certainly scope for us to expand and build on our relationship with them. They have casual drinks on the first Friday of every month at the Canterbury International, 326 Canterbury Road, Forest Hill, from 5.30pm to 7pm. I have flyers for these events so see me if you want one.
Toastmasters International Partnership
Along with Kiel from NewGen and Ben S, I attended a Whitehorse Toastmasters meeting last Thursday evening. I was asked to give an impromptu talk on Rotary. I even got feedback, which is a key element of learning and development in Toastmasters. Ben and I will attend their next meeting on Thursday 19 March so if you want to join us please let me know.
I also invited the President to come and speak to us about Toastmasters, so this will happen in the next couple of months.
AFL Footy Tipping Competition
Yes that time is almost upon us again!!
The RC of Forest Hill run a footy tipping competition. It costs $30 to join for a season - $7.00 is donated to The Hope Katolo School and the rest goes back to the winners of the comp.
It is open to everyone so the more the merrier! If you want to join, please see me and I will let you know what you need to do. It is run through ESPN Footy Tipping.
Fellowship Lunch – Monday, 16 March 2020 at 12pm – Dorset Gardens Hotel
Please let Ian S know if you would like to attend. Partners welcome
Rotary Overseas Recycled Playgrounds (RORP) update
We are well progressed on being involved in our 2nd playground removal. This is happening at Feiglin Park, Nunawading.
It is anticipated these playgrounds will arrive in Colombo, Sri Lanka around 22 April and will be distributed to their new homes from there.
I thank Graeme, Bob A and Ian A for their continued involvement in this project.
Rotary 100th Birthday celebrations
The plan to do a festival within the City of Whitehorse has now been shelved and further details will be discussed at the Cluster Presidents meeting on 16 April 2020. Presidents and President Elects will be in attendance at this meeting. Judith has kindly offered to be Nunawading’s representative on any organising committee.
Enjoy the week
