Feed the Little Children Project...

An invitation from David and Alison Tolstrup to attend a meeting at the RC of Box Hill on Tuesday 27 September 2016 to get an update on Alison's partner project for the last Rotary year

All your clubs were so generous in supporting Alison’s Partner Project in the last Rotary Year that I thought you may be interested to hear a bit more about the Feed The Little Children program in Broome, which was one aspect of Alison’s project.

Just to let you and anyone within your circle who may be interested to know that Padmini from FTLC is coming to speak at Box Hill on Tuesday September 27th.  Currently our weekly meeting cost is $35. Should you or anyone else wish to attend please let me know by Thursday Sept. 22nd so that I can book you in.

It should be an interesting night.

Cheers

ROMAC - Bradley Bola visit update

BRADLEY BOLA VISIT AND MEDICAL PROGRAM.
29/5/16 – MID AUGUST 16
SPONSORED BY:   ROMAC   (ROTARY OCEANIA MEDICAL AID FOR CHILDREN)
ASSISTED BY:  ROTARY CLUB OF NUNAWADING

Latest Update on Bradley

Since his operation to straighten his eyes, Bradley has been in recovery and care of Teresa & Michael Cox who are his host family again. The eyes have been sore and bloodshot ,but the drops and occasional pain killers have seen improvement. We had a follow up check by Dr Lionel Kowal on Monday 25th and concern about the double vision will hopefully resolve over the next few weeks before Bradley returns to PNG.

The week at RYLA  quoted by Bradley as "The best week of my life" was shared with the Rotarian's at Wandin who have supported him over several years. He has several other invitations to tell his RYLA & ROMAC story to other clubs before his return.

The follow-up meetings from RYLA involve a "Toolbox Meeting" and a Reunion in August. Final medical checks will be completed by the 17th August and planning for his return home are underway.

Sincere thanks to the Cox Family for their ongoing support in hosting Bradley, the ROMAC volunteers who have visited and supported him wjth visits to his beloved "Melbourne Storm Rugby League Club", and travel to and from appointments and hospital and the fundraising by Rotarian's to continue this "Life Saving and Changing" work.

Finally again the wonderful work of the surgeons Andrew Heggie and Lionel Kowal and their teams who have made such incredible changes to this young mans life over many years.

Hi Fellow Rotarians since my last contact we have been from Mt Isa down  to Birdsville for the Big Red Bash ( a music festival ) Featuring Jimmy Barnes and Paul Kelly  There were approx. 7000 people in a town that has a population of 100 it was an experience. We left Birdsville headed to Windorah approx 400k east where it started to rain we made our way north 400k to Longreach where we stayed for 2 days waiting for the rain to stop we had about 20 mm rain each day and a top of 10 deg the average is 25 to 30 deg .longreach is on the tropic of Capricorn  approx. 700k inland from Rockhampton .While we had 40mm of rain all along the coast had 200 to 400 mm. We arrived on the coast at Boyne Island ( 25 k below Gladstone ) on the 18th July that day the weather cleared and we have been enjoying around 25 deg most days  nights down to 12 deg .     We have been catching some fish . We are now at Baffle creek approx. 80k above Bundaberg we are slowly heading south we will be at the Gold Coast at the end of August . Hope everyone is well and surviving the cold and wet .Regards Ian & Sandra Symons

bits and pieces
  • Please save the motel soaps or similar size for the 'Days for Girls' program which is a program for sending sanitation products in a wash bag for teenage girls overseas. Give them to Judith who will pass them onto RC of Monash.
  • Save used stamps with a good deal of the envelope! They pay by weight! - proceeds go to ROMAC

DISTRICT STAMP FUND

Why not visit your City Council/Hospital/ School or big business and request their envelopes?

$100k is our aim and with $94,000.00 already achieved we haven't far to go.

UNICEF NEEDS YOUR FOREIGN COINS

More and more of us are heading overseas and we always seem to return with useless foreign coins!

Ron Brooks, RC of Forest Hill, coordinates this successful D9810 project.   Ron will coordinate at District level but needs help from all clubs. In the last 18 months 120kgs of coins and notes sent to UNICEF were valued by them at $4,700.64

Eammon Bryant, UNICEF Partnerships Manager emailed “We see Rotary and UNICEF as a perfect match.    Our history working with, and converting foreign coin to help children in need matched with your unparalleled reach across Australian communities, we think, makes it a dream fit”.   UNICEF works in over 190 countries to support children’s health needs, clean water and sanitation, quality basic education, and protection from violence, exploitation, and HIV.

So, far more than 15 clubs in the district have joined enthusiastically into this initiative.   We are 12.1kgs into the next collection.
  =
• $2 will provide a severely malnourished child enough therapeutic super food for one day
•  $6 will provide 20 doses of potentially life-saving measles vaccine

UNICEF will also take old European coins that are no longer in circulation.

Please leave your foreign coins and notes in the jar on the desk
