Seven of us assembled at Progress Park at 8:30 Saturday morning. 45 minutes later we were on our way to Kilsyth after loading the components in the EERN van. By about 10:45 we had it unloaded and strapped it to a pallet and were on our way home.
Many thanks to our regulars being Ian and Graeme, and our willing and able newcomers: Maria Armstrong, Coral Page, Duncan and Flynn Smart
A couple of points come out:
We are very lucky and grateful to have access to the EERN van and its able driver Ian and navigator Maria. Thanks guys.
This was our first activity on a weekend thus enabling those working or studying to participate more easily - I'll be aiming to do more of that.
Today I have provided to Colin Read/Peter Koens - three boxes of used and donated spectacles totalling 660 (and a few new frames with blanks); please check- for the Nepalese Eye Program.
They are packaged in clip seal bags and numbered. Predominantly, the spectacles are for females.
These donated items have come from local members, Alex Ioannidis’s practice (he is an ophthalmologist and member of our Club), Fareshare volunteers, a Forest Hill Optometrist, lost property from a bus company and the Forest Hill Rotary Club which acquired some from a local LIONS group.
It is our understanding that with equipment donated by others. the lenses may be ground to specification and the frames may in any event be used - all for the purpose of assisting Nepalese people in difficult circumstances to improve their vision. All free of charge.
We similarly have provided spectacles and ordinary sunglasses to EYES FROR AFRICA and the Tavenui (Fiji) OCULAR HEALTH Program (Rotary Club of Croydon), WAM (Medical Ships operating in Papua New Guinea and another organisation in the Solomon Islands.
