Sue Cross shared her family's very interesting memorabilia from WWI and WW2 for show and tell last week.
I think the soldiers who wrote home 100 years ago would never have dreamed that their letters would be shared by strangers all these years later!
We then formed groups to research ANZAC diggers.

CC lunch dates

                                June   15 then;

                                August 4 (my birthday, and a few others in close proximity) then;

                                October 5 then;

                                November (date dependent on what specials are on at the RACV Club)

I have changed the June date to JUNE 15, (not the 8th which is the Monday of the long week end)

The above dates are provided  so those who have a streak of administrative incompetence, ( a bit like this old COCC, who keeps choosing 'holidays' to have lunch on, knowing full well that you will all be away caravanning, beaching, cruising or other such activity, and therefore unable to attend) can enter them in their respective diaries.

Given the next luncheon is in June, those wishing to attend this auspicious occasion could, if need be, arrange a half day of annual leave, tell their respective employer, if it is not themselves, that they have a more important activity to attend to on this day.

The end of the financial year will still be 2 weeks away so any extra cash that you must  dispose of could be spent on a hearty meal. Remember all are invited to the, as yet undecided destination.

You can be assured that this COCC will choose a destination in proximity to most, and of pleasant surrounds so that all may enjoy such wondrous company, and delightful conversation.

Given the notice provided, all will have to provide reasonable excuses for being absent.

Remember, all are invited.

P.S. I am sure members of the CC appreciated yesterdays meal and activities, all good, well done to all those that helped organize a great day, (maybe they could lend me a hand in choosing dates and venues).

Regards

COCC

DAY 17 - MONDAY 27th APRIL (BLD)        MOVIE WORLD + FREE TIME (GOLD COAST)
Prepare for a meeting with the stars and some lovable cartoon characters at Warner Bros. Movieworld.  Be thrilled on the Lethal Weapon Ride or be taken on an action packed Batman experience.  There is a ride or attraction to suit everyone.  Following this we will take you to Surfers Paradise, to the beach, for a swim and to soak up the glorious Queensland sunshine.

DAY 18 - TUESDAY 28th APRIL (BLD)    GOLD COAST – COFFS HARBOUR
New South Wales is where we’ll travel to today.  We only have a short drive ahead to the seaside resort town of Coffs Harbour.  Spend a relaxing afternoon here before travelling to Sydney tomorrow.

DAY 19 – WEDNESDAY 29th APRIL (BLD)       COFFS HARBOUR - SYDNEY
The drive along the coast today will prepare you for the sights you’ll see upon our arrival into Sydney.  Try and catch a glimpse of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera House.  If you miss them don’t worry, as tomorrow we’ll see it up close.

DAY 20 - THURSDAY 30th APRIL (BLD)            SYDNEY
What better way to see Sydney than from the comfort of a Harbour Cruise.  The cruise will pass by the Opera House and Taronga Park Zoo, go under the Sydney Harbour Bridge and see Sydney’s skyline all at a leisurely pace.  From the ground to the sky; this afternoon you’ll have the opportunity to get a bird’s eye view over Sydney from the Centrepoint Tower.  This evening you will enjoy a buffet meal at Centrepoint Tower.

DAY 21 - FRIDAY 1st MAY (BL)     SYDNEY – BENDIGO
As all good things must come to an end.  We hope that the memories you take from this experience will last a lifetime.

Comment from Carina
Just letting you know that I am having a great time. Right now we are on the way to Great Keppel Island. Yesterday we were snorkeling in the Great Barrier Reef. Central Australia was amazing.

In Flanders Fields
by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, May 1915
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow

In Flanders fields.
