Last Wednesday evening we had a fabulous Christmas Dinner at the Kew Golf Club, with 46 Rotarians, partners and friends enjoying beautiful food, company, views and service. Many thanks to Harvey and Russell for their hard work in organising the night.
We were all entertained (and most of us had our brains well and truly tortured) by Sue Cross’ fiendish Christmas Trivia Quiz, for which she is becoming widely known (and feared)!
MC Harvey ensured we had plenty of time for fellowship, and we had a chance to reflect on some of the events of the first half of our Rotary year - remembering our much-missed friend Kevin Thomas, but also welcoming Bob Allardice to the club. So far this year we have donated $1000 to the Rotary Foundation, and $12000 to the Eastern Emergency Relief Network, so our fundraising work will be making life a little easier for people in need, whilst we celebrate Christmas and the New Year.
Thank you to everyone who donated to Major Wendy’s Salvation Army gift appeal to aid women and children living with domestic violence. Wendy’s real-life stories gave us all a jolt, reminding us how lucky we are to have safe, loving, families and homes.
I wish all readers of our Bulletin a happy, festive Christmas - however you choose to spend it - and a peaceful, safe and healthy 2019. But let’s not forget that many are less fortunate than we are, and to take the opportunity to help wherever there is a need and we can address even a little bit of it.
The New Year stars for the club on Saturday 12 January with the traditional President’s BBQ hosted by Phil and Sue Maxwell, (thank you both so much!) and with our first club meeting on Wednesday January 16.
Looking forward to seeing you all in 2019,
