Our meeting last Wednesday was a special Christmas in July meeting. We had a delicious roast turkey followed by traditional plum pudding,. A special thanks to the Blackburn Hotel chef for arranging the meal.
Special thanks to Judith for her work in organising and running the evening. We had a collection of Christmas based jokes and some fantastic stories of peoples memories they had of their past special Christmases.
We had our usual Bunnings sausage sizzle on Saturday, while I haven’t seen the results, I am sure everyone was a busy as usual. Special thanks for upcoming prospective member Balaji and Russel for stepping up to help fill vacancies in our roster.
A 'Get Well' shout out to Roger who unfortunately spent a couple of days in hospital and couldn’t man the Bunnings cooking tongs this month.
Next weekend is the Farmers Market, and while we have volunteers to man the gates, I would encourage other members to come along, with family and friends, and see the wonderful goods on sale and support our work there on Sunday 9 August.
Earlybird bookings for next year’s District Conference in the Hunter Valley have opened. Members planning to attend are urged to let Mike Finke know so he can coordinate our participation in the conference.
It’s been a pleasure writing the past couple of Bulletin introductions, but Shia is back form Singapore and will resume her role as Club President.
The link below is a video of the building of the gate at the Hope Katolo Nursery School in rural Kenya. Assisting the school has been a long term project of our club and this is the latest contribution we have administered on behalf of Rotary Australia World Community Service(RAWCS). The project has been inspired by the vision of local women- Leanne Pinfold and Melanie Haley. Next year we will celebrate 20 years of the support for Kenyan children in Kisimu.
Dementia cafe this week was a special themed one as we were farewelling Jacob, a Melbourne Uni science student, who volunteers at the Cafe. Jacob is off to Denmark to further his research in neuroscience.

Rotaract is a worldwide organisation of young people aged 18+ working together to change our world through community service, international understanding, professional development, friendship & fun.
After many years at the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons building in East Melbourne, Interplast is moving our office to the Australian Volunteers International building in Johnson Steet Fitzroy, in order to significantly reduce our rent.
As part of our re-location plans, we need to digitise some of our hard copy records. We are hoping that some of the wonderful District 9815 Rotarians may be in a position to volunteer some time in the next 3 weeks to help scan hard copy documents and then file them in SharePoint. We will have instructions and protocols in place, and a staff member to brief and aid the volunteers.
