Stories
Vale Don Head (Father of Sue W)

Hi all,

It is with great sadness that I let you know that Sue Warmington's father, Don Head passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, at the ripe age of 93. Don was a wonderful, father, father in law and grandfather to all the family. He was a caring person full of life and will be greatly missed.

Don's Celebration of Life will be held this Thursday, 27th October at 4.00pm, at Heritage and Heritage, 733 Boronia Rd, Wantirna.

Russell Warmington

Members and partners extend their sincerest condolences to Sue, Russell and their family

  • Len reminded members about the Bunnings BBQ on Saturday - will take brochures about Rotary
  • 100 pairs of glasses have been collected already - please keep collecting so we can reach our target of 300 pairs
  • ARH receipts will be issued - there was an problem getting them
  • NYSF - expressions of interest for supporting those students attending in January 2017 - see attachment under links
  • Melbourne Cup night is next Wednesday - will be a partners night - there will be a sweep - plenty of fellowship - wear a hat!!
  • The social media Masterclasses were really good - they were run by Evan Burrell - lots of info about Facebook and how to network

Speaker was Bill Furnish

Bill is a diplomat with the American Consulate
  • He gave us an overview of the American political system and the election process
  • It is made up of three areas - Legislative (passes Law), The Executive which is elected and the Judicial which is appointed by the President
  • Congress is made up of the Senate (with 100 members) and the House (with 435 members)
  • The Executive Branch is 2 people - President and Vice President. They are elected for a 4 year term and can serve for a maximum of two 4 year terms
  • They nominate Supreme Court Justices
  • The primary election is to select a candidate to run for President.  The General election is Republicans vs Democrats. This is where the President is elected
  • There are 3 presidential and vice presidential debates.
  • A candidate needs 270 votes to be President.  Only around 50% of the eligible voting population will vote.
  • Each State has a certain number of votes and these add up to 583 votes -

Rotary Foundation Centennial
This year, OUR Rotary Foundation turns 100, a milestone few organisations reach. As we reflect on the success of our first century, we also prepare for new challenges.

Our Foundation relies solely on donors like us. Its future - and the future of all who depends on its work - in in our hands. Rotarians are able to use grants to create community-driven, sustainable projects that improve access to education for students around the world. See how gifts to The Rotary Foundation open the door to education.

Our support is more vital than ever. This year, we are asking for all Rotarians to consider making a special gift to honour our Foundation's centennial.

In 1917, the Rotary Club of Kansas City, made the first contribution, $26.50, to the Rotary Foundation.
To commemorate this auspicious start, we aim to raise an EXTRA amount equivalent to $26.40 per member for a total of $ 1,113.
Please consider an additional donation this year.

Don't forget
  • All donations over $2 are tax-deductible
  • The funds don't have to come out of your own pocket.
  • Encourage a family member, friend or work colleague to donate
  • Go to https://www.rotary.org/myrotary/en/rotary-foundation to find out more
  • Brochures and handouts are available if required
  • The Rotary Foundation is our Charity of Choice

Volunteers wanted for NYSF - January 2017

Attention Rotarians in District 9810.

Would you like to do something different this coming January 2017?
Would you like to see what the students get to do on the national Youth Science Forum?

If the answer is YES then please read the memo below from the NYSF and the attached PDF.    Please see links above

Dear District 9810 Rotarians,

every year the NYSF welcome several Rotarians to Canberra to fill the roles of “Mum and Dad” and “Aunt and Uncle” during January. These volunteers are a crucial part of the January Sessions, and play a key role in ensuring that our students and Staffies have a safe, happy and healthy program. It’s also a fantastic opportunity for Rotarians to see first-hand what NYSF is all about, and to take that experience back to their club and district.

We’re now looking for expressions of interest in joining us in Canberra in January 2017. Attached is a detailed position description for the roles, including information on the dates for 2017. At the end of the document is an application form - anyone interested in filling the roles needs to complete the form and return it to us by 31 October 2016.

Many thanks in advance for your help!

Kind regards,
Madeline
