POLIO PLUS IS A SIGNATURE PROGRAM OF THE ROTARY FOUNDATION.
PolioPlus is Rotary’s priority program which supports global efforts to eradicate polio. It was launched in 1985, with the help of Dr. Albert Sabin, developer of the oral polio vaccine, as a worldwide program to protect children from the cruel and fatal consequences of polio. In 1988, the World Health Assembly challenged the world to eradicate polio, and since that time, Rotary’s efforts, along with partner agencies, including the World Health Organization, the United Nations’
Children’s Fund, the U.S. Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, and governments around the world have achieved a 99 percent reduction in the number of polio cases worldwide. By the time the world is certified polio-free, our contributions will make Rotary the largest non-governmental financial contributor to the global polio eradication effort.
THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING ROTARY’S NUMBER ONE GOAL-END POLIO NOW!

President Phil's Message

"If you can't measure it, you can't improve it."

Probably one of the most quoted quotes in modern business management was coined by Peter Drucker. He has written 39 books on the subject and is widely regarded as the greatest management thinker of all time.
So how is this quote relevant to Rotary?
Ian Riseley has asked all Rotarians worldwide to record their hours worked and funds raised / spent over the current Rotary year. Anybody who has had to track their own time knows how loathsome this task can be especially for busy individuals. But if RI doesn’t know how much time & money is being managed then how can they promote the commitment that we all share.
So I ask you, on behalf of Ian Riseley, to make some quick calculations and at the next meeting to tell the collectors your total for the Rotary year to date. This number will be added to the attendance sheet. Every week we will ask members “How many hours did you put in last week?”
If you will not be at Rotary for a while then send Judith an email with your estimates.
When you add up the hours spent on Rotary business you will be surprised how much time we spend on the myriad of projects and commitments. I will give you an update for Nunawading at the end of 2017 then in the annual report.
Thanks for your help,
Phil
PBF Corporate Membership Renewal Acknowledgement
Tony sends his compliments and best wishes to you and your members.
I join with Tony to extend our personal thank you to Rotary Club of Nunawading members who have renewed their PBF Corporate Membership. I ask that you pass on to those members our sincere appreciation of their contribution to PBF’s Mission; confirming membership is current through to 31 July 2018.
Member Benefit and Eligible Member(s)
PBF Corporate Membership affords eligibility forRotary Club of Nunawading’s 20members to claim the PBF $250,000 Spinal Cord Injury Member Benefit.  ‘Inclusive’ membership extends eligibility to claim the benefit to members’ spouse/partner and any children up to the age of 25 years, or parents up to the age of 85 years if member is single with no children. For Corporate Membership PDS Terms and Conditions pleaseclick here.
Attached for your members’ information is a one page overview of PBF’s Mission, summary of the PBF Membership Benefit and brief profile on the work undertaken by a PBF Injury Prevention Presenter through membership contributions.
In addition to the benefit eligibility,Rotary Club of Nunawading’scontinued support greatly assists PBF to reduce the incidence and ease the impact of spinal cord injury in the broader community.  PBF relies on Membership income to subsidise our safety awareness and injury prevention programs.  PBF employs up to 40 people who have experienced a spinal cord injury to present its injury prevention programs to schools, sporting groups, Community Service Organisations, businesses and Councils.
As always should you or your members wish to discuss any aspect of your membership please do not hesitate to contact us.
Kind regards and thanks again for remaining good friends of PBF,
Peter

Weekend Away - Nov 11-12

As l mentioned previously, l am arranging a Fellowship weekend at Whitfield on the 11th and 12th November.

Location

Whitfield is in the King Valley 65km north of Mansfield .

The valley is now renowned for good quality Italian style wine (Prosecco ,Sangiovese etc.) and some great food venues.

Meals

I have arranged a lunch for Saturday 11th at Chrismont Wines. They have great food and wine and magnificent views down the valley.

Lunch will be at 1:00 pm to allow time for people that want to come up Saturday morning.

Saturday night we will have a casual get-together around the campfire at the Whitfield Caravan Park.

We find after lunch you do not need much to eat for tea so l though nibbles and maybe a Barbecue sausage or Pizza with some local wine.

Sunday we will have lunch at Gracebrook Winery, a great casual setting with superb food and wine. l have booked lunch for 12 noon for people that are driving home Sunday.

Accommodation

For accommodation, there are various options as there is not one place that can accommodate all of us .

I have checked out all the following options you will need to contact the managers and make your own booking.

Some units accommodate 2 or 3 couples, so get together with your friends to make a booking.

There is a café in town for Breakfast.

The Mountain View Hotel (03) 5729-8270 has 4 Motel units. One has 2 bedrooms. For 2 nights it is $280.00 per couple and you can book for only one night. 4/5 star rating

Jessie's Creek Cottage 0421 494 122 is 3 bedroom 2 bathroom for 2 couples. $320 per night inc breakfast.

No, 1 Bakery Lane Cottage  (03) 5729-8321 is 3 bedroom 2 bathroom is $165 per couple, no breakfast.

Lusso KV 0400 994 943 is New Boutique Accommodation. Minimum 2 night stay, 3 Bedroom 2 bathroom with separate sleeping. It can accommodate 8 people. The charge is $300 plus $75 per person so for 3 couples $600 per night .

Valley View Caravan Park (03) 5729-8350. They have powered and unpowered sites and on site caravans. The vans are old but very clean. None have ensuites but the amenities are very clean and close to all the vans. l  expect the weekend we are there there may only be 3 or 4 others staying. The on-site vans are $90 per night and while some sleep 5 they are more suitable for 1 couple. One is only $60.00 as it does not have an annexe.

Bookings

Whilst l have spoken with all of the above, l have not reserved any except my own site at the Caravan Park. Do your bookings soon as it is a popular area. There are other places but not many. This covers ones l have checked out. Some of us will be staying from Friday until at least Monday .

If you are coming up Saturday morning you have to come via Glenrowan as the Whitfield-Mansfield Road is closed for the day for Targa Car racing. I expect we will be able to see most of the cars late Saturday morning.

I will need to know who is coming by mid-October. I have booked the Restaurants. I just need to confirm numbers. Send me an email when you have booked your accommodation.

If you haven't been before you will be pleasantly surprised at the Quality of the Food and Wine and the scenery.
