CLEAN UP AUSTRALIA DAY

Thank You email received from Peter Dempsey, Secretary Blackburn Lake Sanctuary Advisory Committee

A very big Thank You to all who attended.
We had a total of 50 people. It was good to see families and young people.
Congratulations for “Stepping Up”!
We collected a total of 111.3 kg, including 32.5 kg of clean recyclable items on the day.
Thanks to Blackburn Lions and Forest Hill and Nunawading Rotary Clubs, our Ward Councillor Denise Massoud and  Gladys Liu Federal Member for Chisholm and Paul Hamer, State Member for Box Hill.
We were also pleased to have a visit by the Mayor of Whitehorse, Cr Andrew Monroe.
And very special thanks to our local residents who enjoy the Sanctuary so much.

Further, I would like to thank the Staff and Management of CMA in Blackburn who volunteered for the Corporate Clean Up on Tuesday and collected 25kg of rubbish.

The RORP Story
Great for kids and Great for the Environment
from Bob Allardice

The harvesting of playgrounds started with a cup of coffee.  Whilst attending a Bendigo Bank Directors Conference in Adelaide, Peter Cribb of RC Flemington met with Eshantha Ariyadasa from Sri Lanka, who was staying with friends as he wrote up his PhD on Sri Lankan Social Services.

Long Story Short!  His later request, five years ago, for a playground for a girls’ school became the genesis for the RORP program - Rotary Overseas Recycled Playgrounds.  One playground has evolved now to over 70 being sent to Sri Lanka, Fiji, Tanzania, PNG, Tanzania, East Timor (Timor Lest), and the Philippines.  Next month, another 10 will be sent to Nepal.  Uganda is a new destination coming up.  How fantastic is that?

RORP Central needs a new home

Following on from the article above on the evolution of RORP (Rotary Overseas Recycled Playgrounds) itself, we need a new depot of some sort.  Ideally, we need a laydown area of 100-140 sq m plus space to drop a 40ft container!  It would help if we had power and water too!

Does anyone know of a space we can use/borrow, even if only for a few months, so we can store playgrounds over the North East side of town? Actually, anywhere near Eastlink or the Eastern would be great.  Do you have some unused space in your factory or block of land that we can borrow for a bit?  Any and all offers gratefully considered.
