Notes from last weeks meeting:

Portsea Camp - 7 to 9 October 2016 - BYO Pillows, sleeping bags, snacks, alcohol
nominating committee outcomes for 2017/2018 board (see separate entry in bulletin for further details)
Judith was selected to be a Victoria police mentor for a Senior Sargent (part of Community Engagement) - this is for 1 year.
We need your preloved eye glasses and sunglasses - please canvass friend/family - give to Len B

The weeks meeting had a footy theme and just about everyone came along resplendent in their club colours - it was good to see Max W (Bulldogs) and Mike P (Swans) sitting together for their dinner.

Speaker was Harold "Hassa" Mann - Melbourne Football Club ex Grand Final player, club captain, Australian Football Hall of Fame inductee in 2013

Harold got his nickname "Hassa" from his cousin Len (who also played footy) because he couldn't pronounce "Harold"
He was recruited from Rutherglen
Hassa was in the Grand final winning sides in 1959, 1960 and 1964
He was club Captain in 1965, 1966, 1967 and 1968
He was the leading goal kicker in 1967 and 1968
He represented Victoria on 8 occasions
He played 178 games with Melbourne and kicked 193 goals
Hassa was in the All Australian side in 1966
After he finished with MFC he went to Western Australian Football League and was Captain/Coach with South Fremantle
He coached Caulfield in the VFA in 1981 and coached Eltham to a premiership in 1982
In 1991 he was a Director on the MFC 1991 board and was CEO from 1992 to 1997

1465 players have played in a premiership side - 128 players have played in 3 or more premierships

Players go through a range of emotions leading up to a Grand Final. "Good Teams don't lose Grand Finals"

Relay For Life is on again:

12pm Saturday 19th November 2016 to 12pm Sunday 20th November 2016

Bill Sewart Athletics Track in East Burwood.

A Team has been registered under Rotary Club of Nunawading. It costs $20 to register and this goes to our fund raising target.

Tom Burlinson & The All Star Band

On Saturday October 8, 2016 Rotary Club of Croydon will host Tom Burlinson and the All Stars Band.

All funds raised at this event will be used to assist children effected by family violence.
