August 5th 2015 meeting wrap up
The club had a request from Autobarn Nunawading who are seeking assistance with a sausage sizzle fundraiser for Blue September. This is to raise funds for prostate cancer research and support. It will be held on Saturday 5 September between 10am - 2pm. This is the day before Fathers Day and is traditionally a busy day for Autobarn. They will pay for all expenses including sausages, Onions , Bread etc and have asked that we run the sausage sizzle for 4 hours. We need to supply the tent and BBQ. We need 6 members maximum. 3 members each for a 2hr shift. Two will cook and serve and the other will collect the money.
Please let Ben know ASAP if you can assist
Our guest Speaker was Colin Collyer who has been a member of VARMS since 1972.
Victorian Association of Radio Model Soaring Inc. (VARMS) was formed in 1968 to get together aero-modellers who were interested in building and flying radio controlled gliders. Members fly at many places, but have a “home” field, within the Knox Regional Sports Park (South Wantirna) some 60 metres west of the rear of the State Basketball Centre- Entrance is off George Street, where Training Classes with dual controlled gliders are held every SECOND Sunday 10am to 1pm.
Colin bought an assortment of planes with him and passed around the controls for us to look at.
For those interested in Quad Copters: Wayne provided the link below for you to look at.
Ganzorig Tsend from the Rotary Club of Ulaanbaatar in Mongolia visited our club on Wednesday night. Ganzorig explained this was his first visit to Australia. He was here on business and works for a mining company managed by Rio Tinto.
Ganzorig joined Rotaract in 2002 and Rotary in 2008. His home club, The Rotary Club of Ulaanbaatar is an English speaking club. In 2012/13 he was club President. There are 14 clubs in Mongolia. Ganzorig said the support from Australia to Mongolia was significant and there are a number of young Mongolians in Australia on scholarship programs.
Ganzorig told us the 1st project he was involved in with Rotary was to send a girl with heart problems to Australia for surgery. This was the catalyst for starting the Catheter lab project.

Wayne Willoughby and Ganzorig had a day at the footy - Bulldogs verses Pt Adelaide at Etihad Stadium. Wayne explained some rules of footy and Ganzorig enjoyed himself immensely. Above is a photo of Ganzorig enjoying one of the great Aussie culinary treats - a meat pie!
Did you know that in the last Rotary year 2014/2015 it is estimated around $123 million has been donated to the Annual fund by Rotarians, their families, friends and other interested parties.
It gives me enormous pleasure and pride to announce that our good friend IAN RISELEY has been selected by the Nominating Committee as the Rotary International President for the year 2017-18. This appointment is subject to a two month challenge period before it becomes official.
I am sure that everyone in District 9810 and all around Australia will join with me in congratulating Ian and wishing he and Juliet all the best for the huge journey which awaits them both.
District 9810 will be standing firmly behind Ian and Juliet and we are just so proud.
Please save the motel soaps or similar size for the 'Days for Girls' program which is a program for sending sanitation products in a wash bag for teenage girls overseas. Give them to Judith. Sandra and the RC Monash think our club is wonderful for saving all the soaps!!
Save used stamps with a good deal of the envelope! They pay by weight!
Foreign coins are being collected in a container at the desk. Ron Brooks RC Forest Hill has collected many kgs!
Roving Rotarians - don't forget to send some photos and a short article about your travels!
I had a rose named after me and I was very flattered. But I was not pleased to read the description in the catalog: 'No good in a bed, but fine against a wall."
