Rotary Nunawading bulletin Sep 16 (Sep 12, 2020)

Hi everyone ,

Never a dull moment in the Rotary club of Nunawading.

Gabby is to receive on behalf of the club a citation signed by Mark Maloney by PDG Shia for helping Rotary connect the world.

Well done Gabby on a great effort.

Len Brear is home and being well looked after by Jill. He is still rather tired but well enough to give cheek. Keep up the recovery Len, we will see you back at meetings soon.

Attached is a flyer regarding the 100 year Batton Relay any and all thoughts and ideas are welcomed.

Russell will be sending out reminders for the weekly raffle for those who have committed.

A reminder also that there is a board meeting Wednesday.

Michael Sukkar

We were fortunate to have been able to welcome fellow Rotarian Michael Sukkar as our guest speaker last week.

As Assistant Treasurer and Minister for Housing , the last half year has been quite understandably an extraordinarily busy time for him.

He spoke about what has been happening in Canberra and COVID- 19 from a Treasury perspective.

Members had several questions with regard to the short and long term effects of the pandemic on our economy.

I felt somewhat reassured that he appeared to be reasonably optimistic for Australia's economic future.

Update from Russell W

I have been speaking with Hank. They are trying to stay in NSW, and have come up with this novel way. Unfortunately they have had no offers YET.

Both Hank and Maria are enjoying their time up North. Not sure if they are looking forward to coming home in a few weeks.

The combined Rotary Clubs of Whitehorse and Rotaract’s International Women’s Day committee are running an online event on 11 October 2020 at 7pm – “Growing Great Girls”. This is to celebrate the International Day of the Girl Child.

Speakers will be Jessica Watson and Yasmine Poole.

Cost is $15.00 and proceeds will be donated to “Days For Girls”
