OUR MEETING LAST WEEK

Last weeks speaker was Claire Kelly -Director of Research and Curriculum at Mental Health First Aid  (MHFA) Australia .

Claire has a long relationship with Rotary. Her father was a Charter member (and twice president) of the Rotary Club of Tuggeranong (Canberra) and she has pleasant memories of participation in a wide variety of Rotary fundraising events . A friend and colleague of Sue and Russell's daughter, she engaged Bob Davis' support for some work she  was doing on MHFA.
She received a Rotary Health Postdoctoral Fellowship, funding research to develop Mental Health First Aid guidelines for developed English speaking countries, which created a framework for what this organisation now does.

I was going to try to transcribe some notes I made on her presentation, but then Ian sent me this link to a video presentation the MHFA story far better than I can.

Claire also talked about MHFA for teens - a program that provides basic guidelines and what they need to know in order to help a friend.
