The Hidden Cost of Being the Strong One

Rachel Sietzema is a holistic Mindset Coach who helps people get out of the rut and uncover their true confidence while finding inner peace.

She has spent most of her life assisting others to uncover their blockages with procrastination or to improve relationships and deal with trauma. It started unintentionally with friends and family and then colleagues too.

Rachel spoke at our Club meeting about training your subconscious mind to make confident decisions and being able to take sensible risks without worry, while facing each day with more energy and purpose.

She also provided us with practical tips to ease tension by utilising an unusual breathing technique. Her website is here.

Vale John Vickers PHF

John Vickers was a well-loved past Rotary Club of Nunawading member who even after he left, walked around the Farmers' Market with Judith to collect the stallholders' money for a number of years. John was recognised as a Paul Harris Fellow in 1995 and again in 2008.

The Funeral Service will be held at Tobin Brothers Seasons of Life Chapel, 331 Maroondah Highway Ringwood, on Tuesday December 9th at 10:00 am.

Donations of Exercise Books Needed

As Bob Laslett (International Services Chair) announced at the last meeting, underdeveloped countries are in desperate need of exercise books. These can be easily distributed from Australia via the Rotary Donations in Kind (DIK) service.
Kmart has 9 x 7 in., 48-page exercise books for 20cents each. If you. are in Kmart pick some up and get them to me or I will pick them up. The club Board will reimburse you if required.

City Mission Care Pack Project – Combined District Conference 9815 & 9830

Time is flying and our combined District 9815 & 9830 Conference in Hobart (13–15 March 2026) is fast approaching. We are really looking forward to gathering as Rotarians to be inspired, to connect, and to celebrate the impact we make in our communities.

As part of the Conference, we also want to leave a tangible legacy in our host communities of Hobart and Launceston. We are therefore excited to announce a special Conference project: a Care Pack Packing Project in support of both the Hobart and Launceston City Missions.

Both City Missions are long-standing, community-based organisation that provides compassionate care and practical support to people experiencing hardship across all Tasmania. Their work includes Emergency Relief (food, bill assistance, essentials), crisis accommodation such as Safe Space and Orana House, alcohol and other drug recovery services, youth engagement programs, a free nurse-led health service, and social enterprise initiatives that also divert millions of items from landfill.

Throughout the Conference, attendees will be invited to help pack hygiene care packs for City Mission clients. Each pack will include basic toiletries such as:

  • Shampoo and conditioner
  • Toothpaste and toothbrush
  • Hairbrush/comb
  • Sanitary items
  • Shaver
  • Soap
  • Hand towel/face washer
  • Socks
  • Deodorant

These items will be packed into a reusable tote bag, and each bag will be labelled with your Club’s name as recognition of your contribution to this project. If there is no representative from your Club at Conference, we will find someone else to pack the bag for your Club.

To help cover the cost of purchasing the supplies, we are asking each Club in Districts 9815 and 9830 to make a minimum contribution of $50. Any surplus funds after purchasing the items will be forwarded directly to City Mission.

Our Conference Committee believes this is a wonderful initiative to run throughout the Conference – a simple, hands-on way for us to “do good in the world” while we are together being inspired and enjoying fellowship.

How to contribute

Please deposit your Club’s contribution using the following bank details

  • D9815 Conference Account: BSB 633 000 Account 210 732 749
  • Reference: [Your Club Name] – Packing Project

Thank you in advance for your generous support and for helping us make a real difference in the lives of people doing it tough in Tasmania. We can’t wait to see you in Hobart and to pack these care bags together.

Yours in Rotary service,

Monique Smith Conference Chair – 2026 Combined District 9815 & 9830 Conference monique.smith@rotary9815.org.au

Club Brochure and Flyer now include a QR Code

The Club Brochure and Flyer now include a QR Code to enable ease of access for potential members to make contact with our club. For this task to be completed I would like to thank John who created the code and also thank Ken, Coral, Judith and Harvey for their roles as well. Also, thanks are extended to Bounty Printing, a long-time supporter of Nunawading Rotary for printing several hundred copies of each at no cost to our club.

On advice from Russell, both documents can be made be available to the public at Bunnings on Saturday 6th December. Furthermore, they will form part of the Rotary Club stand at Forest Hill Chase shopping centre on Thursday and Friday 11th and 12th December, with thanks to Ken, Harvey and Bob D, for the organising work to make such a stand possible.
