Last weeks speaker:

Emmanuel spoke about growing up in the slums in Kampala Uganda.

He is now a famous pop star  in Uganda called Coopy Bly  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6fDJV7kbc0

Coopy Bly AKA Emmanuel Edwin Kusaasira was born on the  5th of December 1989 to Patrick and Justin Buyinza. Together with his sister, the two of them were raised by their parents in a Christian family setting in Makindye, on the outskirts of Kampala, Uganda. Coopy Bly’s music talent was first exposed when he led campfire songs at his first scouting camp in his primary school days. He was then inspired to join the school choir for the last two years of primary school.

His Gospel Music career started in 2003, after joining secondary school, Coopy Bly took advantage of both his parents working in the UK at the time to pursue his music dream, knowing very well they would not fully support his music alongside his academics.Using his savings from his pocket money, Coopy Bly recorded his first song ‘Shiny money’ from Dream Studios and returned to school the following term excited and eager to have his friends listen to his song. In the same year, 2005, Coopy recorded his 3rd song ‘Glorify’ which was quite popular for the following 2 years, giving him the chance to perform at gospel shows with big gospel artists of the time, including one of his role models, Martin Seku.

Coopy Bly then recorded the reggae song ‘Ghetto Love’, and with it shot his first music video in 2006. ‘Ghetto Love’ managed to get good airplay in EATV, East Africa’s premier music television channel. We as the one question network had a Q&A session with him, check out his interview.

His fiance spoke to us last year about her project in Uganda that she has been working with for the past few years.

Update on Bob emailed by Sue W on 18/02/2016

Hi Fellow Rotarians,

I have just spoken to Bev (and in fact Bob) who is home again already after surgery yesterday. The surgery was a success and  Bob just needs to be careful  and take care of himself while the bone heals.   Great news.

Cheers

Sue W

Quote of the Week
A bargain is something you can't use at a price you can't resist.  ~Franklin P. Jones

I haven't reported my missing credit card to the police because whoever stole it is spending less than my wife.  ~Ilie Nastase

I love to go shopping.  I love to freak out salespeople.  They ask me if they can help me, and I say, "Have you got anything I'd like?"  Then they ask me what size I need, and I say, "Extra medium."  ~Steven Wright

The odds of going to the store for a loaf of bread and coming out with only a loaf of bread are three billion to one.  ~Erma Bombeck

I've been shopping all my life and still have nothing to wear.  ~Author Unknown
