If you're reading this, you're in possession of the first RCN bulletin of the 2025-26 year and the first edition under the new bulletin editor, John Lynch. Those who attended last Wednesday's meeting would have had a chance to see some of the capabilities of the new version of ClubRunner, Nova, and the creation of this bulletin uses some of them.

This year we can take advantages of some of these tools to organise events, volunteers and rosters, share information and invites with our fellow Rotarians and the wider community, and keep track of all the good work we're doing.

With that in mind, if there are events organised by your committees, please reach out to myself, Graeme or John L for any help with this.

Some highlights to take note of.

  • Ian Evans requests that anybody available for the next family fun day at the Jets Football and Netball club, 4 - 8 pm on Sunday, 3 August, let him know that you'll be going. Some members have already been in touch to advise him of their attendance.
  • A number of members of the club were at the Whitehorse Business Group's networking event this past Friday. It was great to see so many local businesses in attendance and particularly to hear from the Forest Hill Chase centre manager about her intention to build better connections with businesses and community groups in Whitehorse.
  • I attended our Rotary community group meeting on Saturday and I look forward to sharing some information about the revamped and improved wellness and mental health information card project. There are plenty of opportunities for this project to be a great and inexpensive way to help those in need while raising our profile with hands-on volunteering.
  • The Aurora School's 20th anniversary will be commemorated with the opening of a new playground and tours of the ground. It'll be held on 11 September, between 3:15 and 6:00 pm. You'll need to send an email to events@auroraschool.vic.edu.au to secure a spot.
  • A combined 9815 and 9800 Rotaract changeover event will be held at Box Hill Golf Course on Saturday, 23 August, 2 - 6 pm. Tickets are available here https://events.humanitix.com/rotaract-9815-9800-changeover-2025/tickets and the cost is a mere $40.

Plenty of exciting news and developments in the weeks ahead. Watch this space and unite for good.

Cheers,

Mike Finke

2025 Rotary International Convention

Ann and I attended the Convention in Calgary, Canada from June 21 - 25, 2025.

16,000 Rotary members and participants from 140 countries registered for the event. “The world right now can feel divided,” said Rotary International President Stephanie Urchick. “But Rotary brings together people from every corner of the globe, not to erase our differences, but to celebrate them. That’s how we spread peace, because peace is more than the absence of conflict: It’s the presence of understanding.”

Rotary announced the extension of its joint commitment of up to US$450 million with the Gates Foundation to end polio, a Rotary-led peacebuilding program to help strengthen communities affected by conflict in Colombia, and a partnership with Symbiosis International University to establish a Rotary Peace Center in India. In the House of Friendship, more than 240 booths showcased Rotary club humanitarian projects, Rotary’s global initiatives, partners, and vendors in a space of 3,000+ net square metres.

We attended the Opening Ceremony (in two separate sessions), a preview of the Calgary Stampede, Home Hospitality, a “Pancakes for Polio” breakfast, and the Zone 8 breakfast with over 150 Australian and New Zealand Rotarians. WE also attended plenary sessions and workshops with many thought-provoking and innovative ideas.
