Rotary Foundation Centennial
This year, OUR Rotary Foundation turns 100, a milestone few organisations reach. As we reflect on the success of our first century, we also prepare for new challenges.

Our Foundation relies solely on donors like us. Its future - and the future of all who depends on its work - in in our hands. Rotarians are able to use grants to create community-driven, sustainable projects that improve access to education for students around the world. See how gifts to The Rotary Foundation open the door to education.

Our support is more vital than ever. This year, we are asking for all Rotarians to consider making a special gift to honour our Foundation's centennial.

In 1917, the Rotary Club of Kansas City, made the first contribution, $26.50, to the Rotary Foundation.
To commemorate this auspicious start, we aim to raise an EXTRA amount equivalent to $26.40 per member for a total of $ 1,113.
Please consider an additional donation this year.

Don't forget
  • All donations over $2 are tax-deductible
  • The funds don't have to come out of your own pocket.
  • Encourage a family member, friend or work colleague to donate
  • Go to https://www.rotary.org/myrotary/en/rotary-foundation to find out more
  • Brochures and handouts are available if required
  • The Rotary Foundation is our Charity of Choice

Upcoming events at the Walter and Eliza Hall

The Club’s visit to the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute in July.

Sally Cane who showed us around in July, has advised as follows”-
The Walter and Eliza Hall Institute has some upcoming events that I thought the Rotary Club of Nunawading members may be interested in.

The institute will be holding a free public event about our latest lung cancer research on 22 November at 5.30pm. Tours of the lung cancer laboratories will be also available at the event. This is a free event, but RSVP is essential.

The Biomedical Breakthroughs exhibition is currently being held at the Melbourne Museum. The exhibition brings to life the history of biomedical research in Melbourne to celebrate the centenaries of the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute and CSL. The exhibition is open until 20 January 2017. Further details about the exhibition can also be found in a recent Sydney Morning Herald article: www.smh.com.au/entertainment/m27cover-20160809-gqoqjz.html

I look forward to catching up with you and the Rotary Club of Nunawading members soon.

Best wishes,

Sally provided flyers on the above two events and I can forward them to any members who are interested.

Volunteers wanted for NYSF - January 2017

Attention Rotarians in District 9810.

Would you like to do something different this coming January 2017?
Would you like to see what the students get to do on the national Youth Science Forum?

If the answer is YES then please read the memo below from the NYSF and the attached PDF.    Please see links above

Dear District 9810 Rotarians,

every year the NYSF welcome several Rotarians to Canberra to fill the roles of “Mum and Dad” and “Aunt and Uncle” during January. These volunteers are a crucial part of the January Sessions, and play a key role in ensuring that our students and Staffies have a safe, happy and healthy program. It’s also a fantastic opportunity for Rotarians to see first-hand what NYSF is all about, and to take that experience back to their club and district.

We’re now looking for expressions of interest in joining us in Canberra in January 2017. Attached is a detailed position description for the roles, including information on the dates for 2017. At the end of the document is an application form - anyone interested in filling the roles needs to complete the form and return it to us by 31 October 2016.

Many thanks in advance for your help!

Kind regards,
Madeline
