To quote Monty Python - "and now for something completely different........"

When Julie Andrews turned 79, she appeared at a benefit performance at the Radio City Music Hall. One of the songs she performed was "My Favourite Things" (from the Sound of Music), with a twist. So, for all of us who are getting a little older, sing this to yourself (or anyone who will listen!) to the tune of My Favourite Things.

Botox and nose drops and needles for knitting,
Walkers and handrails and new dental fittings,
Bundles of magazines tied up with string,
These are a few of my favourite things.

Cadillacs and cataracts, hearing aids and glasses,
Polident and Fixodent and false teeth in glasses,
Pacemakers, golf carts and porches with swings,
These are a few of my favourite things.

When the pipes leak, when the bones creak,
When the knees go bad,
I simply remember my favourite things,
And then I don't feel so bad.

Hot tea and crumpets and corn pads for bunions,
No spicy hot food or food cooked with onions,
Bathrobes and heating pads and hot meals they bring,
These are a few of my favourite things.

Back pain, confused brains and no need for sinnin',
Thin bones and fractures and hair that is thinnin'
And we won't mention our short sunken frames,
When we remember our favourite things.

When the joints ache, when the skin sags,
When the eyes grow dim,
Then I remember the great life I've had,
And then I don't feel so bad.

The witty Ms Andrews received a lengthy standing ovation for her song.
Next time I am tempted to complain about an ache or a pain, I will think of this song and smile instead.

Thailand - My Second Home
Our origianl speaker for last week unfortuately had to withdraw at the last minute and Stuart Williams - Rotarian Forest Hill stepped in to give us a facinating insight into Thailand, his second home as he calls it.

RAWCS Update - September 2018
What is Donation In Kind?
  • $1,000,000 of goods available for your LOCAL or OVERSEAS Projects
  • Volunteers contributing 10,000 hours each year to help Clubs by gathering, sorting  and assisting to ship goods for Rotary Projects.
  • Volunteers who will pack your project if getting to the Store is a challenge
  • The most cost effective way to support some of the Rotary Foundations Areas of Focus
  1. If you have a project that needs material, your first thought should be “can I get it from DIK?”
  2. If you are looking for a project we believe we have one available to match the capacity and interests of every Rotary Club.
  3. Projects ready for you to adopt and own with the goods available for immediate shipment.
  4. Project Partnerships are easiest way to have your own project and to be involved at a level that suits you.  Another Club has done all of the hard work and developed the project and created subprojects that another Club can adopt.  As a partner you can manage your part of the project and also celebrate the accomplishments of your partner.
  5. The activities of DIK avoids items which still have a useful life left going to landfill in Australia.
  6. Support a DIK Project.  All you need to do is send the money and the volunteers will do the rest

Check For Alzheimers
The following Alzheimer's test was developed as a mental age assessment by the School of Psychiatry at Harvard University.
Take your time and see if you can read each line aloud without a single mistake. The average person over 50 years of age cannot do it!

1. This is this cat.
2. This is is cat.
3. This is how cat.
4. This is to cat.
5. This is keep cat.
6. This is an cat.
7. This is old cat.
8. This is fart cat.
9. This is busy cat.
10. This is for cat.
11. This is forty cat.
