Hi everyone

Happy long weekend!

A reminder that our speaker on Wednesday evening is a former exchange student of the club, Patricia Becker from Brazil….she would love to see as many members as possible so she can meet up with members who were around when she was in Australia and also meet the newer members.

June 1 it seems,  was a popular date for inducting new members.  We have 5 members who were inducted into Rotary on that date and they have a very impressive 187 years of membership between them.  This is a lot of experience, Rotary knowledge and commitment to service above self…….. we thank you Bruce Atkinson for 33 years, Colin Taylor for 46 years, Jim Robson for 43 years, Len Brear for 25 years and Mike Prior for 40 years.  The Rotary Club of Nunawading and your community are that much richer for having you.

We had some discussion at last week’s zoom meeting about when it would be safe for us to return to face to face meetings.  Using the rules set by the various tiers of Government, Bucatini can accommodate up to 24 people in the function room at 6 per table from 22 June 2020.  We will investigate a number of suggestions put forward.  Harvey and Ian A will look into them and come back with a plan.  Russell and Wayne will talk to Ivan to find out how our Wednesday nights will look when we return to face to face meetings.

We purchased some new and upgraded IT equipment from a Volunteer grant we received from the Federal Government.  This included a new laptop, speakers, and video conferencing products .  This should support the club in being able to have members, guests and speakers join us online if they choose.

Our changeover will be held on Zoom.  Friday 26 June at a time to be advised by Colin.

Whitehorse Farmers Market – 14 June 2020

With the support of the City of Whitehorse, the market will run on 14 June 2020 in the usual spot near the Whitehorse Centre.  RC of Nunawading is on the Egg and Bacon stall.  Council assisted the Whitehorse Farmers Market committee in working out some of the logistics. We will have hand sanitizer available at the stall and only 2 people can work inside the tent.  The money collection has to be done outside the tent. Graeme M has a full list of what you need to do and observe and will give this to all volunteers for the egg and bacon stall.  At this stage 48 stall have said they will be at the market which is great.

If you would like to assist, please let Graeme know as soon as possible.

Rotary Recycled Overseas Playgrounds (RORP)

We received advice that this project is starting up again.  Although there are no playgrounds for removal in the City of Whitehorse at the moment, there are in other areas.  Bob Allardice and myself are now on the RORP committee as deputy database updaters!!

Virtual Rotary International convention – 20 to 26 June 2020

All members should have received an email about the convention.  The email gives members the opportunity to sign up.

I signed up to 2 general sessions and also the following breakout sessions:    Using Virtual Tools to Engage Members, Engaging Rotary Alumni Greening Rotary Events: Be Plastic-free, Offset

Carbon, and More!,  Grow Rotary Through New Club Types, The Rotary Brand, Personal Growth Opportunities: Rotary’s Alliance with Toastmasters.  As you can see there is a real diversity in topics to be covered and there are more available.

I encourage everyone to sign up and attend at least 1 session.  For those who are new to Rotary, or even if you are not, , it will be a great opportunity to see an event on an International scale runs.

Don’t forget to purchase your new Entertainment Books!!

Contact Russell W if you need assistance…
