WHAT IS THE GOAL OF ROTARY FOUNDATION GRANTS?
“Doing good in the world.” This is achieved via three programs categories of The Rotary Foundation.
District Grants– allows up to 25% of funding given three years ago through Annual Fund – SHARE to do projects that fall within the mission. Almost any type of project can be done and local clubs work with their districts to figure out what projects and activities are nearest and dearest to their hearts.
Global Grants- funds sustainable and measurable scholarships, humanitarian grants and vocational training teams in the Rotary Foundation’s six areas of focus.
Packaged Grants- Fully funded projects done with strategic partners that allow Rotarians to work with experts in the six areas of focus, Multiplying the good work of our Foundation and creating relevant partnerships showing the world what Rotary can do and the power of teamwork.

AS A ROTARIAN, YOU ARE ELIGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE IN ANY ONE OF THESE PROGRAMS. WHICH ONE INTERESTS YOU?

President Phil's Message

Tragic death robs Ugandans of a true leader

It was a shock to all Rotarians worldwide last week when it was announced that President-elect of Rotary International, Sam F. Owori had died after a planned medical procedure. His death was a tragedy not just for his family but also for Rotary in his birthplace of Uganda. Since he served as District Governor, the number of Clubs in Uganda has swelled from nine to 89.

Owori was Chief Executive Officer of the Institute of Corporate Governance of Uganda. Before that, he was Executive Director of the African Development Bank, Managing Director of Uganda Commercial Bank Ltd., and Director of Uganda Development Bank. He studied law, employment relations, business management, corporate resources management, microfinance, and marketing at institutions in England, Japan, Switzerland, Tanzania, and the United States, including Harvard Business School.

We are proud to have Ian Riseley as the current President of RI. We can only imagine how a developing country such as Uganda, with such a tragic past, would have responded to Sam as RI President.

Rotary as an organisation will go on. RI is stronger than one person and steps are already underway to find a suitable replacement.

Sam served as trustee of The Rotary Foundation, chair of The Rotary Foundation's Finance Committee, and a member of the Investment Committee. Individually we can honour Sam’s memory by contributing to the Rotary Foundation.

Visitors: Past member Peter Rentsch and his wife Karen (RC Cobram)

Immediate Past President David Hatcher presented a Paul Harris Fellow pin with Sapphire to PP Jim Robson.

Neil Ibbott reported that there would be another sausage sizzzle for the Dads' Group on Saturday 29 July.

Judith Eadon reported that another succcesful Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) had wrapped up.

Past District Governor Merv Ericson is the District 9810 Club Protection Coordinator.

Merv discussed the development of the Club Youth Protection Policy which was released in March 2016. However, it had to be revised in order to be compliant with Victorian Government's Commission for Children and Young People's seven guiding principles. The revised Policy can be found at the District website here.

Christmas in July

We just confirmed 149 starters with Bucatini! We are occupying the whole Restaurant and will have some tables behind the bar area, which is the choice of many for the reduced noise factor. However, you won't be out of the action.

We are proceeding with a small Auction Event during the evening, along with a Raffle. Entertainment will be our Kingswood Carol singers, Door prizes and a Christmas oriented Trivia Quiz, for those who need to be challenged. We are also planning to decorate the restaurant with some Christmas fare and guests on the evening are encourage to join the Christmas theme, by wearing something colourful or flashing.

I am still struggling with some major items to Raffle. If Members could contribute, source or have contacts for Restaurant, accommodation ,wine , art or theatre tickets etc. Your support would be greatly appreciated. We have the audience now, we just need some nice items to secure their support. Maybe you could advise me by phone or bring your contribution on Wednesday night.

After discussion with Ivan on Wednesday afternoon, I will advise table location and numbers, to communicate to your friends and guests.

I am keen for the night to run smoothly. I have appointed some table hosts and they will assist with auction, raffle and trivia activities during the night.

I will publish a Action List tomorrow for items to be completed prior to or on the night. If you can help, please talk to me as I wish this to be a successful night for the Club and Interplast.

Bunnings Sausage Sizzle - 20 July
Dear everyone - we had an excellent result from last Thursday's Sizzle at Bunnings.

We sold approx 300 sausages, in spite of - or because of - the wet and windy weather. Our profit was $547.94, down a bit for 300 sales, however we had about 60 sausages left over, which Neil will be able to use for the DGI breakfast this coming weekend.

Thanks so much to the indomitable Vanarias for doing all the shopping - again - and slicing the onions - again - and setting up on the first shift - again.
Thanks to Dick, Judith, Max, Bruce, Graeme, Wayne, Harvey, Sue W, Wendy and David H for all covering the roster.
The Rotary Foundation Seminar - 11 August
