LAST WEDNESDAY

President Ben welcomed District Governor Daryl Moran and his wife Jenny - both members of the RC Rowville Lysterfield.
Janette also introduced Woodrow Wilson- a volunteer on several Interplast trips. He  is responsible for the photos and posts promoting Interplast in recent times.

Many members wore hats or some form of headwear to celebrate
Australian Rotary Health

DG Daryl reminded us that
ARH marks its 40th birthday  this year,
and has contributed something like
$ 46 million to medical research.
ARH is one of the largest non governmental contributors
to Mental health Research in Australia.
DG Daryl Moran introduce  his wife Jenny, who would speak to us first on her Partner project.

Jenny spoke the reasons for which she had chosen this for her partner project.
From the D9810 website:

'The impact from missed days of schooling, due to their menstrual cycle, on the education and future opportunities for young girls is enormous. Days for Girls, through the production and distribution of sanitary kits, with an allied education campaign, has made a significant contribution to empowering girls since 2008.'

Jenny spoke of how the program works to empower girls, improve educational outcomes and destigmatise menstruation.
She wanted to see a specific outcome and targets building independence by setting up sewing teams to produce kits locally.
She wants to build capacity in the pacific region, specifically, Fiji, Kiribati and Solomon islands.
She is presently working with the RC Lautoka on establishing just such a centre of production for sanitary kits.
It appears that we may be able to help her by shipping over some materials in our shipping container destined for Fiji later this year.

District Governor Daryl Moran then embarked  on his presentation.
Included in the presentation were the following:
Some issues affecting us all at present.......

REPORTS
from Kiel Egging
Launched on World Mental Health day:

Mental Health Wallet Card

In celebration of 100 years of Rotary in Australia, all Rotary Clubs in Whitehorse have joined together to partner with the Eastern Health Foundation and Bendigo Bank’s Blackburn South community branch, in a significant Rotary mental health project.
This joint mental health project - named the Wallet Card Project - will assist people in crisis who attend Eastern Health’s emergency departments at Box Hill Hospital, Ringwood East’s Maroondah Hospital and Ferntree Gully’s Angliss Hospital who may be disorientated, vulnerable and often feeling they have nowhere to go.

“Our Wallet Card Project is designed to help people experiencing mental health crisis to understand what services are available to them, not just when they come to the Emergency Department, but more importantly, once they’ve left.

“They have a tangible resource they can store in their wallet, to find where they need to be, and don’t walk out of the Emergency Department feeling alone.”

from Harvey

The Eastern Emergency Relief Network  in Nunawading recently agreed to provide us some space in which we can store Rotary property and paraphernalia.
We needed to create a separate space for Rotary things, and to this end, individuals have been hard at work constructing a separate room on those premises.
This work has been completed, and the 'room' only needs a coat of paint, to render it fit for purpose.
Once everything is moved to the room, the district trailer can be freed up for disposal.
