WHAT CAN YOUR $100.00 DONATION TO THE ROTARY FOUNDATION DO?

Your $100 donation to The Rotary Foundation can help provide textbooks for one elementary school in Zambia, provide a hearing aid for a deaf child in Pakistan, buy de-worming tablets for 112 children in the Philippines, pay for cataract operations for three blind people in India, or provide 230 blankets for the elderly in the winter months of Korea.

YOU CAN COMMIT TODAY TO DONATING $100 OR MORE PER YEAR TO THE ROTARY FOUNDATION AND START MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN PEOPLE’S LIVES. WILL YOU?

President Phil's Message

The Power of Many

Last Thursday night we had a meeting of the outgoing (Feather Duster) and incoming (Rooster) cluster Presidents. The major discussion was about the Volunteering Forum and lessons learnt from that night.

The first point was the recognition of the excellent work done by Neil Ibbott in organisng the event. It was agreed that without Neil’s drive that the event would not have occurred. Well done and thanks Neil.

A total of 13 “Volunteers” attended and 57 Rotarians and it was agreed that given the amount of effort put into attracting attendees that we did not succeed. The previous Volunteering night held by Knox only resulted in one member. On discussing this result, it was pointed out that the diversity of projects undertaken by our Clubs does not make it easy to “sell” to prospective members.
A suggestion was that;
  1. We hold joint committee meetings early in the next year. At these meetings the Clubs would document their projects and plans so that a joint list could be developed.
  2. The Farmer’s Market would be used to promote specific nights for volunteering, for example “Volunteering in youth projects” (RYLA, MUNA, NYSF), “overseas health projects “ (Polio, Toilets, Cleft, Interplast, Medical Imaging). These nights would be small – 4-5 Rotarians with a chance to sit down & be told about projects and how volunteers could help.
  3. They would be held throughout the year with topics changing every few months on a rolling basis.
The best way to attract new members is still through friends but we seem to be running out of friends. Even though our Club membership is constant at 44 most clubs are losing members and the District is perilously close to the minimum allowed by RI.
Feedback from PE Janette is that many members have stepped forward to accept positions for the 2018-19 year. With Janette’s knowledge of retailing and managing volunteers we should see some innovative programs to attract new members next year.

District 9810 Governor 2020-21
PP Alma Reynolds describes herself as a passionate Rotarian and, as the appointee to serve as District Governor in 2020/21, she is sure to bring that passion to the role.

Alma joined Rotary in Shepparton in 2006 resigning from the Rotary Club of Shepparton in 2008 when she moved back to Melbourne. In 2009 Alma, with husband Greg King, joined the Rotary Club of Doncaster where she served on the Foundation Committee, the club Board and as Club Secretary, becoming President in 2013-14. Alma has also served at District level as Assistant Governor and District Secretary.

Alma is a management consultant in her own “micro-business” and also works part time as an optical dispenser at Specsavers in Heidelberg.  She holds qualifications in Optical Dispensing, Technical Teaching, Educational Administration and Business Management and has worked in the optical, educational, automotive, economic development, horticulture and timber industries.

“I see the role of District Governor as a great opportunity to use my accumulated skills and knowledge to serve the community and work with fellow Rotarians to do what they do best – be great Rotarians!” said Alma.  “I am looking forward to the year as DG and to undertaking the preparation the role demands.  To me it seems most important that the year is an enjoyable one for me, for Greg and for my fellow District 9810 Rotarians.”
