Treasurer Russell advised that all raffle tickets had been sold and paid for. Arrangements need to be made to pick up the stubs from Aurora - possibly by Colin.
We are all delighted that the club has  made $ 3,100 from the sale of raffle tickets, which will fund some of our ongoing projects at Aurora Special School
Kiel Egging from NewGen
This time last year, NewGen held its hugely successful Parmas for Polio fundraiser at The Coach in Ringwood. It attracted over 100 guests - including plenty of RC Nunawading members - and the group was able to qualify for the district's PolioPlus program and raise more than $13,300 for polio eradication worldwide.

Obviously due to COVID-19 restrictions, the club isn't holding the event in the same timeslot this year. However, NewGen plans to stage Parmas For Polio again sometime this Rotary year, most likely in early 2021.

HEPATITIS AWARENESS

Ian Armstrong introduced Kevin Sheehan.  ian had first met Kevin on board a bus in San Francisco in 1976. Since then they have been friends, competitors and even
colleagues when they served together on the Board of REIV (The Real Estate Institute of Victoria). Needless to say, they are still friends.
Kevin is the immediate past president of the Rotary Club of Melbourne.

Kevin told us that END HEPATITIS NOW is one of 5 Centenary Projects being implemented by the Rotary Club of Melbourne.
The project encompasses an International component as well as a National one
The Australasian (international) component involves vaccination of 100,000 children in the Asia Pacific. It will be delivered in cooperation with UNICEF, with funding from Rotary Club of  Melbourne and other Rotary Clubs, together with a Global Grant. This part of the project has experienced significant delays, as many of the recipient countries are COVID free and so have closed borders.
The national project involves making Australians aware of this 'Silent Epidemic.'
This arm of the project has progressed at a greater rate than expected because Zoom meetings have made it easier to carry the message throughout Australia.

IS THAT A FACT?

This image has been widely circulated on facebook.
The post says that this image is entitled "Life in 2022", and the accompanying information suggests that the illustrator Walter Molino foresaw the Pandemic of 2020 and the social distancing practices that have ensued.
I did a fact check and found
  1.  It is true that the Walter Molino's illustration was published  on December 16, 1962 on the back cover of the Italian magazine La Domenica del Corriere and was made by the Italian artist.
  2. It  is NOT titled "Life in 2022"
  3. It actually is a visualisation of a future motorised method of transport.
