One of the reasons for COVID vaccine hesitancy has been distrust of the remarkable speed with which several types of vaccines have been developed.
This has however, been made possible as a result of a combination of factors which include
- accumulated expertise over the years
- experience of SARS Epidemic 2003 which led to Research (in coronaviruses)
- advances in Genome Testing
- concurrent Phases in testing
- Lab research
- Animal studies
- Human Clinical trials
- Phase 1 – few dozen healthy adults – establish is safe and induces immune response
- Phase 2 - 100’s volunteers – include specific sub groups – check for immune response & side effects
- Phase 3 – 1000’s people test for disease prevention , safety and side effects
- New Technologies
- Focus Financial / Political Encouragement
- Active Pandemic to Test On
Bob also addressed concerns re the risk of blood clots associated with the Astra Zeneca Vaccine.
There is a clear link between the development of clots (Cerebral Venous Thrombosis- CVT) and the AZ vaccine.
The risk of developing CVT is between1:160,000 and 1:250,000, but lower for those aged under 50.
The risk of death is 1;800,000, though this too is reducing as a result of improved methods of treatment have emerged.
In the presence of rapidly mutating viruses of varying degrees of virulence,
Can we really afford Not to Get The Jab?
