FUNDRAISING & FELLOWSHIP ANNUAL REVIEW from Harvey Lane | |
ANNUAL OVERVIEW The presence of Covid and its Victoria state rules restricted both our Fellowship and Fundraising activities and forced our Committee to cancel many planned events or conduct them, at arm’s length via zoom A Calendar of events was put together in July and a zoom F&F committee meeting held to look at the planned timing, location and Covid restrictions. After closer examination and deliberation the Committee decided to either hold the event, transfer it to later in the year or cancel the event outright. |
FUNDRAISING ACTIVITIES Our greatest success was Russell Warmington’s development of our partnership with Bunning’s Nunawading. Bunning’s covid requirements called for extended staffing and the reduction of covid exposure to all customers. This meant an opportunity for our Club with a strong member base to staff the sausage sizzles with required numbers and follow the procedures required. Many smaller local clubs could not meet the requirements and had to forfeit their opportunity to participate and hence our increased involvement. We had a total of 9 opportunities to assist Bunnings during the year and this became the basis of our strong fundraising, complemented well by the local monthly Rotary Farmer’s Market. Other fundraising events included the Club raffle and wine sales, the Community raffle, Cinema night for the Rotary foundation and a very successful Trivia Night at the Aurora School for the Deaf All round a successful fundraising effort marred only by the restrictions of Covid FELLOWSHIP ACTIVITIES We were forced to cancel activities involving the National Tree Planting Day and the planned Australia Day celebrations due to the withdrawal of these activities by the Whitehorse Council due to Covid restrictions and people numbers. Bob and Coral’s Garden Display and the Warrnambool Train Trip were also force to be abandoned. We had a number of regular fellowship events such as the AFL Grand Final and Melbourne Cup evenings. Members were challenged to pick the First Goal kicker, Norm Smith medal and the winning team and margin. Cup sweeps were also offered to members and partners and the winners for all events, were grinners and collected a tidy sum. The Christmas Party early December was again well atended and the Christmas breakfast at Milano’s restaurant in Rooks Road was popular, with Michael Sukkar the local member for Deakin in attendance. We were back for the President’s Bar B Q in January and our first meeting on 12 January. The Chinese New Year luncheon event followed in early February organised by our James Tan. Wayne Willoughby organised a Midday luncheon event in March after a series of cancellations. Some 12 people attended including our AG Catherine Efflick. The Rotary year for 2021/22 will finish with the President’s Changeover on Friday 24th June and we will farewell President Ben Stennett and welcome in our new President Gabby Knaepple, who will be the first repeat President in 57 years of the Clubs history. Congratulations Gabby. Harvey Lane Fundraising & Fellowship Chair 14/6/22 |
