Preparing a Business for Sale
Too often business owners do NOT prepare early enough and therefore don't maximise the sale value of their business - and their retirement can suffer.
Having been involved in business acquisitions and sales in the corporate sector and then as a corporate advisor to business owners, there are lessons to learn, including:
- Assembling a reliable team of advisors early
- Allowing plenty of time
- Preparing the business thoroughly
- Making sure a buyer won’t find any “surprises”
- Making sure the business runs normally during the process
- Being prepared for a “deferred” payment
- Being prepared to stay on for a period after the sale
- Keep your business in a “sale ready” state
