The presentation of Paul Harris Fellow awards to Rotarians is always a special event for a club, as well as the Rotarians themselves. Last week the Rotary Club of Nunawading was honored to witness the presentation of 2 such awards to members who exemplify our motto of "Service Above Self".

Immediate Past President Phil Maxwell presented a Paul Harris Fellow - Sapphire to Neil Ibbott for his outstanding contribution to the club - particularly over the past couple of years with the work Neil has done with establishing and supporting a local Dad's Inc group, and his efforts to drive membership.

Immediate Past DG Malcolm Chiverton presented Len Brear with a Paul Harris Fellow - Sapphire for his outstanding efforts in driving fundraising for, promoting and supporting Interplast over many years.

Between them Len and Neil have a combined total of 53 years of Rotary service - both are quiet men who do not seek recognition for the good work that they do - and both exemplify the type of Rotarian we should all aspire to be (at risk of embarrassing them both in saying so).

RI President Barry Rassin's theme for this year is "Be the Inspiration" - Neil and Len have shown us clearly how to do this.

Vale Ken Ince
PHF Ken Ince, a long-time member of the Rotary Club of Nunawading, passed away last week at the age of 98, on the Gold Coast, where he lived with his wife Pat. Ken was a very active member of the club across many different areas, most notably in fundraising, at which he excelled.
X-ray cassette readers for the Cook Islands
Cosima X  ray cassettes reader
On Thursday the 12th of July, Phil Maxwell and I visited D.I.K in Footscray West to supervise the crating of the two X-ray cassette readers for the Cook Islands.

The cassette readers were donated by Bega Valley Radiology and they were originally destined for Timor Leste. They will now be used on Aitutaki in the Cook Islands.

The crating was very professionally done by a group called CMTP.
The readers were packed in moisture resistant foil before packing them in custom made crates made from treated plywood.

Sealing the waterproof bag       Ready for crating
The crate for the peripherals was too big, and we added boxes of shirts to partially fill the wasted space.

Good to go

Soon the crates will be picked up the DSV Air and Sea for shipping to Rarotonga.
From there the machines will be transferred to Aitutaki.
Because of the way the equipment is packed, we feel confident everything will arrive safely, even if it is transported to Aitutaki on the back of a fishing boat.

The installation will be done by either my-self or Jason Walker.
Jason Walker is a Philips field service engineer in Christchurch, New Zealand and he is the initiator of the project.
Jason is arranging for a mobile X-ray machine donated by Wairau (Blenheim) Public Hospital to be shipped from Christchurch to Aitutaki to complete the X-ray facility.
