President`s Message

I'll keep it very short this week:

Be on the lookout for a message from me about keeping our compliance documents updated.

Wear your nicest, fanciest fascinator to Wednesday's meeting for our Spring Carnival / Melbourne Cup evening.

Remember that even on long weekends, interrupted or not, we continue with our Bunnings BBQ schedule.

See you Wednesday

Mike F.

My RYLA Experience - Hajera Akram

Hajera Akram is a qualified audiologist and recently attended the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) in Phillip Island along with Erin McCulloch. Hajera spoke of the many friends that she made and the range of activities, games, challenges and workshops that they participated in. Like Erin, Hajera has been inducted as an Honorary Member of the Rotary Club of Nunawading.

2025 Spring Festival

Our club manned a booth at the Whitehorse Spring Festival on Sunday 19th October. This is an annual event organised by the Whitehorse City Council as a showcase for local organisations. The weather was kind and the festival was attended by at least 20,000 people. On the same day as the violent protests against immigration in the city this the multicultural crowd largely composed of families were enjoying interacting with each other.

Thank you to members Shia, Hank, Bob W, Ian E, Rob and Wan for helping out at the booth throughout the day. There was a lot of interest about our club and its activities throughout the day with quite a few showing interest in our AED project. There were 4 enquiries about membership and 6 offers for potential speakers from local organisations.

Highlights of the day included:

  • Meeting Jenny Donnet from Whitehorse Divers, a quadruple-Olympian who knows Ethan Newnham.
  • An invitation for the club to visit the Blackburn Sikh Temple
  • An offer to collaborate with our AED Project from St John’s Ambulance

RORP Packing Day - November 08

On November 8th from 7:30 am, we will be packing a 40-foot container with 12 or 13 playgrounds for shipment to Sri Lanka. The location is at Arena Gardens (John Arena's yard) at 6 Cloverlea Drive, KILYSTH SOUTH. The Google Maps reference is here.

It is big job and we need as many volunteers as possible. Please let Rob Jackson know if you can spare a few hours in the morning.

Mount Pleasant Road Primary School Fair

The Club will be cooking sausages at the Mount Pleasant Road Primary School Fair on November 22nd. Nick McGowan MP will be providing sausages, onions, bread, condiments, serviettes, gloves etc. The school has 2 gas barbecues and all the implements. Our job is only to cook and serve, no money-handling. All proceeds will go to the school.

Volunteers are required from 10 am to approximately 4 pm. Please let Shia or Rob know your availability.
