President`s Message

This Wednesday offers us a chance to hear from one of our fellow club members, John Lynch -- the man behind, among other things, this very bulletin you're reading right now.

Whether it's a 'behind the badge' or 'Rotary journey' presentation, these nights always provide an opportunity to learn more about the background, experiences, skills and values that we may not know much about. It's not just interesting and enlightening to hear more about our fellow Rotarians, it can also be helpful.

I had a chance to refresh a skill from a previous career -- in the paint manufacturing industry -- on Saturday when I met some club members at John Arena's place in Kilsyth and got behind the wheel of his forklift for the first time in several years. I was pretty rusty, but it started to come back. So next time we need to load playgrounds into a container, I should be okay.

We've all had rich, complex lives, and we bring all of ourselves into Rotary for the benefit of others, and I think that's always worth celebrating.

What's coming up?

  • Blackburn Lake Sanctuary working bee, Saturday 18 October at 9:30 AM.
  • Umbrella Dementia Cafe on Wednesday, 22 October. Please reach out to Silvana if you can provide a homemade or store-bought sweet or savoury supper contribution, or if you'd like to know more about volunteering at the Burwood Brickworks afternoon event.
  • A Melbourne Cup-themed evening on 29 October.
  • 5 November we'll hear from Deborah Nicholson, of Government House.

See you on Wednesday!

Mike

Bunnings Sausage Sizzle News

Thanks to everyone who helped at Bunnings Sausage Sizzle on Saturday 4th October. The profit for the day was $2,191.50.

Our next Bunnings Sausage Sizzle is on Saturday 1st November. Please let Russell Warmington know if you able to help on a shift.

We are looking for a new "Bunnings Sausage Sizzle champion".  Russell will be stepping down from organising and overseeing our Bunnings efforts from the start of December.  Please consider if you can take on this role.

Take action for World Polio Day on 24 October

For decades, Rotary members have joined forces with governments, nongovernmental organisations, and local communities to fight polio. We’ve made incredible progress, but the mission isn’t over yet.

This powerful video shows why our commitment is more critical than ever.

As World Polio Day approaches, a new Rotary Service in Action blog post details the challenges we face, explains how supporting polio eradication promotes peace, and offers simple ways your club can take action through fundraising, education, and advocacy.

Read the post and start planning your World Polio Day event today.
