WHAT IS THE ROTARY FOUNDATION’S “WORLD FUND”?

At the end of every contribution year, each Rotary District’s contributions to the Annual Programs Fund are divided into two funds: 50 percent is credited to the World Fund (WF) and 50 percent is credited to the District Designated Fund (DDF). The World Fund is used by The Rotary Foundation to pay for the worldwide programs available to all Rotary districts, regardless of specific contributions.

IT IS THIS FUNDING FORMULA WHICH TRULY MAKES THE ROTARY FOUNDATION AN INTEGRAL PART OF ROTARY INTERNATIONAL.

Phil is having a well-earned break from his weekly column.

We look forward to his next insightful contribution.
Barefoot Bowls - 28 February
I have confirmed 30 starters for our Bowls night. The address is 2 Loughnan Road, Ringwood. Start time is 6:00 pm for 6:30 sharp. The number of rinks available to us depends upon the total numbers bowling that evening, but I am assured we will be looked after. Shoes without heals can be worn. Any shoe with a soft flat sole, otherwise bare feet.

Drinks are available at bar prices but no alcohol or glass is permitted on the greens. The night will include a hamburger with salad and a sausage/ bread plus a couple of events run by the bowling club to entertain us. Some members may eat first and then bowl. Others bowl first and eat second, depending upon the rinks available. It should be a fun night with some 10 partners involved.

Off-street parking is available at the rear of the Club. Come in through the main club entrance and look for Wayne or me. Monies can be paid at a desk we will set up. Look for the Rotary Banner.
District 9810 Youth Forum

On Tuesday 20th February about 60 Rotarians teachers and young people gathered at the Mulgrave Country Club to listen to the participants of our Youth programs describe the main highlights of the programme from their perspective and what they learned, how they think they benefitted from the program and what benefit do they think their school community might have experienced as a result of their participation

We heard about the serious debating in the Parliament Chamber between the teams of students dressed as their allotted country from the Model United Nations Assembly (MUNA) committee chair, Andrew. Victoria gave an interesting account of her year away on Youth Exchange. Tara raved about her time at the National Youth Science Forum (NYSF) and how the experience shaped her future studies and the challenges of returning the next year as a staff member.

Tamara talked about the life-changing week she had at the Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA( program at the YMCA Camp out of Bacchus Marsh and the lifelong friends she made.

We were lucky to have four Interact Clubs from four secondary schools speak about the way that Rotary has impacted on their school life by opening up the wide world of service to others both locally and internationally (pictured above).

Finally the Monash Rotaract Club President Netania spoke about the role that Rotaract has for young people in having fun whilst raising money for local and International projects.

The Youth programs are a wonderful way of developing young people and introducing them to the world of volunteering both locally and internationally.

Presidential Peacebuilding Conference

I am pleased to invite you to the Sydney Town Hall on 17 March for the Presidential Peacebuilding Conference where we will explore economic and community development in relation to peacebuilding on a local, national, and international scale.

Rotary District 9675 has planned an outstanding program featuring Nobel Laureate Muhammad Yunus, noted Australian foreign correspondent Hugh Riminton, Founder and Executive Chairman of the Institute for Economics and Peace Steve Killelea, Vice Chair of the Rotarian Action Group Against Slavery Dave McCleary and UNICEF CEO Tony Stuart. Joining them will be a host of other internationally recognised thought leaders from across the business and philanthropic communities.

We discuss important topics including the cost of conflict, the power of education, facilitating peaceful outcomes, as well as pressing issues such as cyberbullying and modern slavery affecting the harmony of our global community.

We’ll explore the real causes of economic instability, the intersection of sound community development and reconciliation, and opportunities to create peace through collaborative service projects globally and locally. You will leave the conference motivated to expand existing efforts in peacebuilding or initiate new ones.

I look forward to joining you in Sydney as we come together to Make a Difference by discussing challenges and identifying opportunities to address some of the most pressing concerns of modern times.

If you have not already registered, you may do so online http://rippc2018.com.au/registration. Consider bringing along a friend, school student or young person to learn and be inspired as we come together to explore how all of us can thoughtfully and practically build peace in our world

Sincerely,

Ian Riseley
President, Rotary International
