LAST WEEK I TOLD YOU WHAT SHARE WAS; NOW I’LL TELL YOU WHY IT IS CALLED SHARE.

The Rotary Foundation’s funding system is called SHARE because the name defines what the system does:
  1. Rotarians SHARE their resources with their fellow Rotarians around the world;
  2. The Rotary Foundation Trustees SHARE some of their decision-making responsibilities with the 540 Rotary Districts; and
  3. Rotarians SHARE Rotary with the world through their Rotary Foundation.
READY TO BECOME INVOLVED? ASK ME, AND I’LL LET YOU KNOW HOW!

President Phil's Message

On the home stretch

I apologise for being an absent President. I do not have the energy to follow up members and could not do the 90-minute round trip to attend Club related functions. The immunotherapy has made me more tired than expected.

I would like to thank PE Janette for filling in for me for this extended period, especially given the pressures on her outside Rotary. The Club will be in good hands next year. Also, I would like to thank the members that have called, texted and emailed and offered their support.

I have the remaining immunotherapy treatment next Friday. In mid-March, the specialist will do a check to confirm that the cancer has not returned. If that check is positive, then I can relax until the next check. I will not be at the Bowls night but Sue and I will be at the Conference in Bendigo in early March. We look forward to seeing you there and I hope that following the Conference, I can get back to being an active member for the remainder of the Rotary year.

Phil Maxwell
Guest Speaker - Special Olympics

Amanda Kozik is an Olympic skier who represented Australia in the 2017 Special Olympics World Winter Games in Austria. She competed in the Slalom and Grand Slalom. A highlight for Amanda was meeting Arnold Schwarzenegger who is a spokesman for the Special Olympics. Amanda spoke to us about her family, her sports (swimming and skiing) and her daily routine.

Mark Wilson is the Athletes Mentor for the Melbourne Inner East Club which provides weekly sports training and regular competition for people with an intellectual disability. Mark thanked the Club for our assistance with the Fundraising Walkathon for the 2018 National Games in Adelaide. 19 athletes from Melbourne Inner East will be part of the 1000-strong team in April. The Special Olympics is not conducted by the International Olympics Committee (IOC) unlike the Paralympics. The next World Games will be in Abu Dhabi in 2019.
Barefoot Bowls - 28 February
This is our next Fellowship Night. Members and partners are invited to the Ringwood Bowls Club for an evening of barefoot bowls, BBQ dinner and games as the guest of the bowling members.

Start will be 6.30 pm sharp at the Bowls Club (2 Loughnan Road ,Ringwood). Costs will be our normal $25 per head and drinks are available at bar prices. All bowls equipment will be supplied. It will be a fun night for all and your Committee looks forward to seeing you all present.

Please respond to the email invite to register yourself and family and friends. We have to advise numbers for catering by Thursday 22 February.
