Donations Needed for Salvo's Christmas Appeal

For many years the members of the Rotary Club of Nunawading have supported the local Salvation Army Corps at Christmas, as the Salvos work to help those in need to enjoy Christmas. We traditionally do this by bringing gifts or donations to our Christmas Dinner meeting, which in turn are passed on to the Salvos via Major Wendy.
This year, the impact of the pandemic, lockdowns, and the associated loss of jobs and income for many Victorians means that the Ringwood Salvos still need another 70 Christmas Hampers for local families who are struggling to put food on the table every week, let alone provide a Christmas Dinner.
Major Wendy has again asked for our support this year,
which we can provide by doing 1 or more of the following:
- Donate cash which can be used to purchase Christmas Hamper items
- Donate Coles Gift Cards which can also be used to purchase items for the hampers
- Donate a Christmas Hamper, in a Christmas Gift bag, which needs to contain the following:
- Plum pudding
- Custard - long life
- Sweet biscuits
- Cordial
- Shortbread
- Candy canes
- Lolly bag
- Christmas crackers/bon bons
- Dried savoury snacks - rice crackers
- Tin of leg ham
- Chocolates
- Long life milk
- Items such as mince pies can be added as optional extras.
Donations of cash, gift cards or hampers can be given to Major Wendy at our club meeting this week, or our Christmas function on Wednesday December 8th.
Wendy and I will organise to shop for hamper items and pack them into Christmas Gift bags after the 8th, probably at the Salvos Ringwood Corps, so that they can be distributed to those who need them in time for Christmas. We may well need help to shop and pack, so if you are interested, please let us know.
This Christmas will be a tough one for many Victorians, including members of our own local community, who have never before been in a situation where they have needed this type of support.
With your help I hope we can meet the target of providing a Christmas Dinner for 70 families, who would otherwise go without.
