President Colin's Farewell Address

I believe that we have emerged
a stronger and more vibrant club
with the attitude and commitment
that will ensure that not only will we survive
but grow into the future with pride.

It’s tempting to simply say 2020-21 we had Covid and sit down again. None of us could have predicted then the events that unfolded in the last 12 months.
At the start of the Rotary year, we set modest measurable and achievable targets and thankfully with a few Bunnings BBQ’s, a few Farmers markets and the raffles and raffle books we achieved every target we set.
What we didn’t achieve was much of anything else. Virtually no youth, international community or other major projects could be even started yet alone achieved.
But let’s look at the positives,
We forgot our committees and came together as one team.
Its funny how companies of all sizes send their employee’s off to do team building exercises then bring them back to the old traditions of forming committees, not team’s.
Its hard to change traditions, they are comfortable and secure and make us feel safe however they also inhibit us and hold us back and stifle adaptability and change.
In the last twelve months this club, this collective of individuals has banded together as a united team to support and encourage each other.
We took on new technologies and successfully implemented them. We overcame the obstacles that were put in our way and proved ourselves to be flexible adaptable and capable of responding to adversity in a positive way.
Our only two major events being Australia Day and the Baton relay were rained out and the 100-year anniversary passed with barely a ripple.
The Presidents BBQ, Theatre Nights Christmas in July and other fellowship, fundraising and community programs, cancelled.
Yet through all of this I believe that we have emerged a stronger and more vibrant club with the attitude and commitment that will ensure that not only will we survive but grow into the future with pride.
To Russell, the Eveready Battery Man who never gives up, thank you for your support and guidance.
To Di who took on secretary and was my rock for all of that formal meeting stuff thank you enormously.
To the 2020-21 board and chairs thank you all for your advice, guidance and encouragement and to the team that is the Rotary Club of Nunawading, well done.
