UPDATE FOR TAVENUI PROJECTS

Len forwarded these reports to me with a request that I  publish them in the Bulletin.
He also asks if the club would consider making a contribution to to these programs.
He and Bruce continue to collect spectacles for our Rotary eye projects.

Eye Project

Due to impending changes in the funding of Global Grants, NZ and Boronia hurried through the application to obtain the maximum Foundation match for club donations.
I can again confirm that we were successful and the next Eye Project is thus fully funded and even better fully approved by Rotary Foundation, although it is subject to International Travel being resumed.
My best guess is we will be conducting the surgery part of the project in May of 2022.
Prior to that we will be training the Fiji Society for the Blind screening people and doing the patient testing to get the best candidates for the project.
I will be giving a full update in February once more things become clearer.
Your funding donation assisted in getting the grant approved – thank you.

NB. No Rotary Building was damaged during Cyclone Yasa.
We are in the process of increasing our normal Taveuni School Assistance Project to try to fund at least double the number of students this calendar year.
Should you or your club like to assist us in this International Project all we need is a pledge at this time.
We can thus sign up more children and then pay the accounts during the year as the monies come in to the Project funds.  Many clubs have their funds around June each year so this fits in very well with our timetable for the project.
The School Project and Eye Project are both very strictly run by Michael Prasad ( RC Taveuni Treasurer and resident ) and myself.
We work together very well as both personal friends and committed Rotarians.

I am happy to add anything I can or attend for a meeting and give a presentation.

Yours in International Service,
Peter
